School Mission Statement

Mann Middle School’s mission is to improve the quality of life of all students and prepare them for college and career by creating RESPECTFUL, actively literate, RESILIENT learners who are ready to take on the challenges of modern life by fostering personal RESPONSIBILITY and resolve.

Resilience: We are building young people with the power to overcome challenges and achieve their personal goals.

Responsibility: We are building you people that an active stance in their learning and stand up for what they believe.

 

2019-2020 Schoolwide Goals:

Relationships: Work on developing relationship between staff and students through the integration of restorative practices in and outside of the classroom.

Rigor: Work on increasing academic achievement among students through a focus on providing rigorous, thought provoking classrooms that are alive with argument, productive discussion, and challenging reading.

Relevance: Build a shared vision around the value of education in the modern society and the powerful role each student plays in building their future.

2018-2019 Schoolwide Goals:

Relationships: Work on fostering deeper relationships between staff by improving our communication between all stakeholders and giving opportunities for leadership.

Rigor: Work on increasing reading levels of our students by developing action plans at the school level, department level, and intervention.

Relevance: Build a positive school culture for students by providing ample opportunities in leadership, membership, social-emotional support, and academic guidance

2017-2018 Schoolwide Goals:

Relationships: Utilizing townhalls and special event days, we will create more positive schoolwide culture with whole school participation (Time for Wednesday Student Clubs.)

Rigor: All departments will continue to use CER format and expand it as formative assessment of their content, with a focus on academic vocabulary and precise language to explain students' thinking and "reasoning."

Relevance: By June 2018, students at Mann will have the opportunity to participate in at least one purposeful opportunity to communicate their academic learning in all SUBJECT areas to our community (parents, peers, teachers).

2016-2017 Schoolwide Goals:

Relationships: Develop staff voice for professional development and decision-making, socializing opportunities, work on mentorship in advisory with students.

Rigor: Learning: Work across the disciplines on writing around a CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) model; Student Choices: Develop consistent and accountable schoolwide discipline plan from classroom through administrative steps.

Relevance: Within advisory class and with departmental reinforcement, there will be a focus on growth mindset, study skills/planner usage, and relationship/team building. Townhall meetings will include motivational speakers and relationship between choice making and consequences.

District Mission Statement

All San Diego students will graduate with the skills, motivation, curiosity and resilience to succeed in their choice of college and career in order to lead and participate in the society of tomorrow.

Vision 2020: Quality Schools in Every Neighborhood

To prepare our students for the competitive global economy they will face in the years ahead the San Diego Unified Board of Education has developed a focused, long term plan for student achievement. It culminates with graduation of the Class of 2020. Vision 2020 is a community-based school reform plan that engages all parents, staff, students and community members. It will result in a high level of confidence in our public schools. Between now and 2020 we intend to develop a world-class school system for all of our students.

The Board of Education will hold itself responsible for maintaining the focus of the staff and the community on Vision 2020. The Board will review Vision 2020 at the end of each school year to assess progress towards the goals of the vision. The Board designates to the Superintendent the development of the strategic process for the implementation of the goals of Vision 2020.
